The San Pedro Chamber of Commerce is passionate about working to create an environment where your business can thrive. The Chamber draws its energy from a few dedicated staff professionals and a large number of impactful community members that volunteer their time, treasure and expertise to move San Pedro into the well balanced and vibrant community we all know it can become. The purpose of this letter is to invite you to engage in a process that will impact our community for years.
We ask that you join us, and help guide the investment of tens of millions of dollars in much needed infrastructure for our community.
In 2015, the Port of Los Angeles created a Public Access Investment Plan, and committed 10% of Operating Income to be invested in the port communities through new public access projects. At the launch it was estimated that the investment would amount to approximately $200,000,000 over a ten-year period. Given that the Port has sequentially exceeded income over the last four years, they are now forecasting an additional $30 to $42 million in unallocated funds for projects will be available. They have launched a process where they are asking the community to propose and evaluate the best use of these additional funds.
San Pedro Chamber Board Member, Ann Carpenter, has stepped up to chair an ad-hoc committee to develop and propose to the full Board of Directors the Chamber’s response to the Port of Los Angeles. Ann envisions several working sessions, while collecting information from Chamber members and subject matter experts. The first meeting is set for Monday, May 20, 2019. The meeting is an informal workshop to introduce the process and take input on potential projects. Please call the Chamber at (310) 832-7272, or email Laura Avila at email@example.com if you would like to attend the workshop.

We are always willing to work for consensus with other community voices such as the neighborhood councils, but; first we believe it is vital that we advocate for your business and your view of the future of San Pedro. Attendance at these meetings will only be available to San Pedro Chamber of Commerce members. If you are not currently a member or need to renew please call the office or renew online at sanpedrochamber.com.
We hope you will join us by participating in this process and the Chamber of Commerce, and not miss an excellent opportunity to help guide our community for the future.
