SUMMARY:World War I: It's Impact on the Harbor Communities
DESCRIPTION:This symposium commemorates the 100th anniversary of the end\n\nof World War I\, when hostilities ceased on November 11\, 1918.\n\nNowadays\, World War I is often overlooked\, but it upended\n\npeople's lives and transformed our harbor towns\, the country\,\n\nand the world in enduring ways.\n\nSpeakers will discuss the impact of the war on our local economy\n\nand community. You will hear about the effects on the Port\,\n\nshipyard activity\, the submarine base\, worker housing\, the\n\nprogress of labor\, and how harbor residents contributed to the\n\nwar effort through food conservation\, the Liberty Loans\, and\n\nsupport for the servicemen and their families.\n\nThe human cost will be observed with a biographical roll call of\n\nlocal casualties and a report on the WW I veterans buried at the\n\nHistoric Wilmington Cemetery.\n\nOn two Sundays\, November 4th and 11th\, in coordination with\n\nthe symposium\, the Muller House Museum will exhibit WW I\n\nitems and photographs of San Pedro during the war era. The\n\nmuseum is located at 1542 S. Beacon Street in San Pedro. Those\n\nwho may have artifacts for the exhibit are invited to contact:\n\nMona Reddick mdalred@gmail.com .
