New President/CEO Betsy Cheek
Betsy Cheek has been an Executive Director and Financial Development director for non-profit organizations in Los Angeles and Orange County for 16 years. She currently serves as Development Director for the San Pedro & Peninsula YMCA. In that capacity, she collaborates with individuals, corporations and foundations to raise funds for YMCA programs and services, primarily in the communities of San Pedro, Wilmington and the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The YMCA's mission is to help make these communities stronger through healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility.
Since joining the YMCA in 2005, Betsy has been
responsible for raising over $7 million in capital and annual support campaigns
and mitigation funds.
Prior to her work at the YMCA, Betsy served as the
Executive Director of both Temple Israel in Long Beach and Temple Beth David in
Westminster. As Executive Director, she
managed both internal and external daily operations and coordinated volunteer
outreach and new membership programs. In
addition to her experience in the Jewish Community, Betsy has worked as a
consultant to several Orange County and Riverside County organizations
including: Adam Walsh Foundation for
Missing and Exploited Children, HomeAid of Orange County, House of Ruth, Human
Options, Olive Crest Home and Services for Abused Children, and the Orange
County High School of the Arts.
She has served on many non-profit boards, including
the Foundation Board for the Orange County High School of the Arts.
Betsy holds a degree in Communications from California
State University Fullerton. She resides
in Long Beach with her husband, Ron.
They have two children.
